BARRY — Western High School is preparing to launch a new program aimed at helping students build successful futures without the burden of debt, with a community event scheduled for next week.
he Western CUSD 12 School District will officially unveil its Wildcats Pathway to Prosperity, or WP2P, program during a press conference set for April 8th at 10 a.m. at the Western High School Agriculture Building.
School leaders say the program is designed to remove financial barriers and give students real opportunities to pursue career and college pathways during their junior and senior years. The initiative focuses on helping students graduate ready to enter the workforce or continue their education with practical skills and experience.
The WP2P program is built around four key components. Students will have access to full tuition assistance for vocational training at the Hannibal Area Career and Technical Center in fields such as welding, construction, cosmetology, and culinary arts.
Additional certification opportunities will be available through the Quincy Area Vocational Technical Center in areas including health occupations and diesel technology.
Students will also be able to earn up to 24 dual college credit hours through John Wood Community College at no cost, along with receiving a $400 travel stipend to support participation in off-campus work experiences like CEO programs and work study opportunities.
The program is supported in part by a $20,000 grant from the Tracy Family Foundation, with district leaders continuing to seek additional support from local businesses and community members to sustain and expand the effort.
Officials say the goal is to ensure every Western graduate has a clear, achievable path to a high-wage career and long-term success.
