WINCHESTER — The Winchester Civic Group has launched a new community fundraiser aimed at improving public spaces in the city with additional picnic tables and trash receptacles.
The group announced its 2026 beautification project will focus on adding picnic tables at Douglas Park and Monument Park in Winchester, along with installing additional trash cans around the town square.
Each year the Winchester Civic Group selects a project designed to improve the community in a visible way. Organizers say this year’s effort will help make the parks more comfortable gathering places while also helping keep public areas cleaner.
According to the group, the total estimated cost of the project is approximately $16,725, which includes six picnic tables — three at each park — and five trash cans for the square.
Community members can sponsor individual items as part of the project. A donation of $2,200 will fund a picnic table, while $1,100 covers the cost of a trash can. Donors who sponsor a picnic table will have the option of having a name plaque placed on the table.
The Winchester Civic Group says donations of any amount are appreciated, even if residents choose not to sponsor a specific item.
The organization is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and donations can be mailed to:

Organizers say the group’s mission is to cultivate a thriving community by creating shared memories through local events and strong partnerships.
