PITTSFIELD — Wright Place Auto has announced plans to relocate into the former Airsman-Hires Funeral Home building on West Washington Street following the January fire that destroyed the company’s longtime Adams Street location.

Owners Peter and Anita Wright said the business will move into the building at 1232 West Washington Street and will focus on pre-owned vehicle sales and golf carts. The business does not currently plan to resume the body shop services that were previously offered.

Wright Place Auto was established in 1991 and later relocated to 1243 West Washington Street in 2021 after operating for many years on Adams Street.

The Adams Street location was destroyed by a fire on January 24, forcing the business to find a new home in Pittsfield.

Before the fire, the business employed eight people and continues to employ four as operations transition to the new location.

Officials say the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and investigators with the Illinois Fire Marshal’s Office continue to review the incident.

While the Pittsfield funeral home location closed only recently, Airsman-Hires Funeral Home continues to serve Pike County through its chapel in Griggsville.
